Type 2 DIABETES SURGERY

DIABETUS MELLITUS, popularly known as SUGAR DISEASE is a disease that gets aroused by the high blood sugar level. The cause is lack of INSULIN hormon production by the pancreas, or decreased INSULIN efficiency inside the tissues even if it can be produced.

There are generally two types of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes can be caused if insulin cannot be produced in the body, but type 2 diabetes (Type2DM) appears in case of insulin inefficiency . The type of diabetes that is the subject of metabolic surgery is Type 2DM, in which insulin is not effective even though it is present.

"Metabolic Surgery" is a relatively new concept. The digestive tract surgery applied to treat both Type 2 diabetes (Type 2DM) and obesity at same time is called Metabolic Surgery. It includes some of the operations that are usually performed for the treatment of obesity, as well as those that have recently been derived from them.

The patients with diabetes type 2 having obesity (BMI>30) could be treated with a bariatric surgery. Surgical operation is not a treatment option for diabetes type 1.
